Istanbul, May Saturday 11st to Thursday 16th

We had our last ceremony on Saturday. Çanan with aylin and caner arrived at 7. Aylin, Çanan´s friend, is the person who wrote my by facebook and I had a çay last week as I thourgth she was a contact of the srepading by intenet. Caner is the first time we meet. Hussein and Meral arrived later. It is secind ceremony for Meral, who started last Saturday and she like ceremonies and finsih vey happy. Jonturk came at second ceremony and with pain in the back. We started with a Serice readed by Hussein and after a well-being, readed by Çanan. We had many asks fro all the asistants. All was done in Turkish lenaguage and in a very soft ambient.
After ceremony we dinner, a food done by Çanan andme. We talked a lot. For example, Meral said she is from the side where the boms was last days, an area formerly belonged to Siria, and thats why she speak arab. Aylin said she is student of last year in the University. She studies Farsi (Iranian mengiage and culture) and she will be Farsi translator. Caner talked about his brohter, who did a travel to Nepal looking for spiritual experiences and now is a theatre teacher.
After dinner we went for a walk to Moda and to have an icecream and çay.

On Sunday Nacho and me went to an Alevian center in Uskedar, because it was their celebration day. It is the same place where we was last week, then only inthe garden/cementery. the pace is a 3 floors building (like almost here) close to a Musk. In the first floor was open, with small shops, a place for different things, in the second floor a palce for celebrations, with carpet on the floor and speakers, and in the thirth a open place with big tables for eating. When we arrived there was a celebration in the second floor, with music, and many times all people toghether sing sentences, almost talking about Alah, and also fromtime to time thay change the rythm and the people started to dance: Men and women was separated.
I was surprised about some things. There was few people, and almost no youths, what it means that also here people are losing their vocation. Also that esthetic was similar to cristian, both holly alevian persons and the ambient in general. You can see that alevian ar before islam, and they are incorporated it as a ligth layer of paint, but if you scratch it it easily felt down.
THe first floor is with many posters, among them you can see for example one of Einstein with his famous senteces, pictures of open minded thinkers, etc..and also posters of their parks. In this posters, apart of bank acount for colaboration, a picture of what a park will be, with what it looks like a Sala and a Multiusos. I atachd photos from this poster and the Alevian holly man with cristian appearance.

One evening I was in Betsikas, European side, to have a çay with 2 people knowed by intenet. One was more interested on Silo´s message then the other, but what I like from this visit i that we walked and I knew little Betsikas neigborhood, and we wnet to a park, democracy park, where there are many scultures of people victims of the religious fanatism. I atach a pic. It is like an alegory of wht it is happening here, a permenent pressure between two sides, one the religiosity and the integrism and to go back on rigths, and the other lacity, diversity and openmind.
They also talked to me about Ortakoy, in European side, like the more open mind neigborhood of European Istanbul, just like Kadikoy (where the salita is, Asian side) and a posible place to do things if in one moment a comunity is growing in this side of Istanbul.

On Tusday we was in Bursa, we liked this city very much, old Turkish Empire capital, while they could not take Istanbul. We traveled in a very confortable Ferry, only 1 hour and half to Bursa coast, 2 million citizen in a land that you can see from a mountain whre the old city is. Itis similar to Granada (Spain) a city with pany university students and with snow on winter to practice sky and sonw sports. Peopleis very much calm than in Istanbul. We saw a very beautiful musk, one of the first done in the city, with deep asian influences and even budist. Part of the trip we had Multu as guide. He is Jonturk´s friend. With Jonturk we planned the trip, but he cannot travel because of his back problems, but everytime he called to check that everuthing is fine. So his friend was our guide. Multu is a very nice guy, theater actor, he trated us very well, but he couldnt talk to him to much as he only speak Turkish with some words in English.
Two curiosities from Bursa, one is that all the trees has a plac, a little plac staddled. And all the trees has a very well cared, with concrete supporting the olders trees, and even old trees in the tourist guides as importants thing to see. They have many things with the trees. Another interesting thing is that they again place cementeries in any place. If you walk in a neigborhood, yuo can see buildings, and in a small square of 15x15 meters, where you image a place for the people, there is a tree with the plac and 5 or 6 tumbs.

On Wednesday we had a goodbye dinner, as the Thursday we had fligth to Rome for the European gathering of the message. Çanan y Aylin y Caner couldnt come becase just this day they had a very close friend operation and they went to hospital. They called by phone to say goodbye. Same than Meral, who was in the European side, who also called. Hussein came but short time as he had to prepare plenty job for next day. So finally we was Ana, Gonça, OScar (Nacho´s friends currently in Istanbul) Jonturk and me. We had "tortilla" made by Ana, "garbanzos" made by Nacho and meat pie done by Gonça´s mother. With many laugthers and a goob ambient we was sayinggoodby untill next trip.

Hombre y mujeres estaban separados.
Me sorprendieron varias cosas.

Istanbul, from May Sunday 5th to Friday 10th. A week full of diversity.

We had the calm after a "storm" . After a weekend full of movement in the Salita (3 Spanish, 3 Italian, 1 French,..), with the return of Cristophe on Tusday morning early, only Nacho and me stay as Salita hosters. Calm mornings, Nacho studing and me working at distant with internet and telephone. The evening are full of diversity.

One evening I went to Betsikas neigbooorhood, European side, to know Gihgih, who conected with us by internet. She is Filipinian, working form Monday to Saturday and only Sundays free. Same situtaion than Maryluz, Colombian, who we knew in the first days of the trip. And also like her, very interested in knowing people and having enviroments of relationship. When we was in the chat, she recoginzed the message like when she make curative massages, and before she has to place her selve in asking mode, asking for the person to treat and wishing that curation will go thorugh her hands.

Another evening I went to know Aylin, also in teh European side (Karakoy). She study in the university. In the beginig I thougth that she contact me from the texts that I posted in internet, but whe she was coming from Çanan, who talked to her about the message, and even showed to her where the Salita is. Aylin is quite interested, she was in Saja Yoga some time, she think it is not bad, but this is not what she is looking for. She wants to assit this Saturday to the ceremony in the Salita, as it is the last in our trip, despite she is some how busy just this day.

Monday evening Hussein called us and did a gathering with Nacho, Cristopheand me to make a Turkish ceremony in the Salita, becasue it was a special day in Turkey. We wrote our next year wishes on a paper. After, we placed the papers behind a rose that Hussein bougth before to keep for2 days. After we did an ask.

A different evening we was at Jonturk´s house, playing "tabula" (similar to backgamon) with Lukas (German) and his German friends who are in Turkey for some days. Lukas, 19, Jonturk´s very close friend, has conected very well with us, despite the difference between ages, and apart of attending 2 ceremonies and like them, he is spreading in his way in his enviroment. He is from a new generation of youths that I have seen before that have no shield agains spirituality, and very close to us. We all went later to Uskudar, Asiatic side, and to a sea side, where restaurants have pillows to seat, have a çay, and watch Europe.

Another day Nacho went to visit Gonça in her mother´s house. They are having swiming pool (not common here) and Nacho toke the chance for swimming and making exercises. After, typical Turkish lunch and a big chat with Gonça.
The same evening I went to Kadikoy english table, a weekly place to practic English between people, and I knew some people, but with one in special we had fast connection, he is Sirian and he is here since some years ago. He was interested in the message and we did appointment for this Saturday ceremony.

Later, in Spanish table, I meet again with 3 persons that was also last week in the same place. And it is very interesting how I felt that I know these people long since. These spanish table have something interesting, an special feeling. You can find people from different culures but in the same wave. And the people treat well each other, you can make freinds easy and interchange telephone, adress,.. There was a guy in the Spanish table that was arrived from a trip to Georgia and Iran. He was surprised becasue in Iran, in different cities, youth peple is similiar to Istanbul youths, nothing tobe with fundamentalism, they are open minded, you find restaurants, dancing places, alcohol,...

One nigth Çanan toke Nacho and me for dinner. She came with her blood brohter Hassan, who is Çagan´s father. Çagan study in Malaga, and becuase he was new in the city, I helped him to deal with some things as mobile, internet,..some months before. The dinner was in a very good restaurante, typical turkish food, and Hassan invited to us. Hassan and Çanan want to go to Malaga in summer to visit Cagan, and I ofered them accomodation, and we was talking to go to Africa (Tanger)

Another evening Nacho planned a visit to a Alevian Center, in Uskudar. In the middleof the beigborhood, close to the Alevian Center, we saw a park full of trees, birds, shadows,..and becuase someone indicated us that Alevian Center was in the other side of the park, we decide to go cross it. But it was not simply a park. Trees, birds, shadows...was there, but where you believe that grass with children playing, poeple resting,..will be, intead of it, graves. Full of graves. It was a cementery, but with the ambient of a park,  with people going across from one side of the negborhood to another without anyproblem.

Once in the Alevian Center, a ceremony was just finish and it was not allow to enter. We was in the gate with no idea of what to do, and a very kind man came to talkto us, and Nacha and him was very friendly. The man works in the shop in front of the Alevian Center, it is a gravestone shop, in the back of the cementery-park. He speaks english and he allow us to enter in the Alevian Center using the back door. Not in the building, that was closed, but in the garden, a garden with trees, birds,...and graves. The Center garden is anohter cementery. Older than the one before. There it was a famous Alevian grave, from XIV century, a kind of holly man. The gave has some columns for whishes. After the ask, you have to take a stone from the ground and push it with the column. If the stone remains with the column, your whish will become true. If the stone felts down, not. The columns has many stone fixed, what is not logical as comlumns are vertical and the stones you take it from the ground.

From the begining of the trip I was thinking a way to spread a sing in Kadikoy, so peoplein similar wave can conect with us. Before the trip, the idea was to make an non-violence artist gathering in Kadikoy, or something like that, andput posters ont he street and invite people. But thisidea was based on Çanan, artist, who knows very well Kadikoy. But Çanan is very busy at this moment so this idea was not posible. Then I started to take all the posters that I use to see in the street, and to snap also some of them. After, I showed them to Jonturk asking to translate (Jonturk laugthered with this) There posters offering job, reducing weigth,..I wacth that all poster had a similar apperance. No desing, just text and one picture trying to fill of the space. I also watched where the poster use to be fixed. And also that they use to be very small , A6 sized, 4 parts of an A4. And also the way that they fix them with a two sides paper glue. I desgned a very simple poster, I remembered how Matt said that Jonturk invited to him to the ceremony (..do you wantto come to a meditation?..) so I wrote Meditation Group at Kadikoy, a picture of the peace experience from Selfliberation book and the sentence " There is a way of directing and concentrating the energy that circulates througg the body, and my Turkish telephone (that I get the day before with my passport) and my personal email. And Silo.net. As it was an experiemnt, I only wrote my details. Before printing I showed it to Jonturk, who did some changes, and we did 80 copies, 60 in Turkish and 20 in English. On next days, when we was for anything we fixed posters. we have finished to place the 80 poster, no calls yet (even for good or bad deals). When Hussein saw the poster, his eyes started to brigth, and he asked me, Why dont you write the Salita adress? ? why dont the Saturdays gathering? HOw will the poeple coenct when you will leave?. He likes the idea. Nacho wrote the Salita adress and ceremnies schedule, and use them as leaflet, when we go for a áy or toplay tabola and someone come to us, specialy use to be young people, so he talk and gives them the leaflet.

4th May celebration in Istanbul

At 6,30pm in the Salita, Tiziana, Rachele, Guilia (Italia), and Carlos and Nacho (España) did a deep felt Service Ceremony. Despite the schedule was at 7pm, Italians friends had the fligth back to Roma at 10pm, so we did a first ceremony beofore. Just when Tiziana, Rachele and Guilia was leaving to the airport, Cristophe, Meral, Hussein and Gonça arrived to the Salita. Jonturk arrived later with 2 English friends (Rebecca y Matt) and 2 French friends, who never heard before about Silo, they where simply invited by Jonturk to a meditation. We was talking with the new people what the Salita and the 4th May celebraation was. After that, we heard the healing of suffering speach in Spanish but with subtitles and wrote on papers in English. After that, Service read by Carlos and WellBeing read by Hussein. There where many asks in this ceremony, including one from Rebecca for her future child. The 5 "new" people followed very well the ceremonies. After that, we was having a typical Spanish food (alubias) cooked by Carlos and we startes to chat. We was Cristophe, Carlos, Nacho, Hussein, Meral, Gonça, Jonturk, Rebecca, Matt, and the 2 French friends.

Gonça was having questions about the relationship between The Message and the social work, what generated a conversation between all of us. We was started to be in a very good atmosphere of truly friendship between us. After, Rebecca and Matt, asked how Silo´s message get organized, as they was interested, they was in the same "wave". In fact they said that some time before they was talking about something like this, this kind of spirituality. After that we showed the Parks Book, what generated new conversations and more questions (about how parks get organized, if we was living inside the parks as comunities,.. ). In one moment, Matt said that it was incredible how we was toghether since only 2 hours but it looks like we where friends from a long time ago. We had differents conversations in this good ambient and we disolved the gathering around the midnigth.

Istanbul, Tusday 30th to Friday 3th - Comrade, it´s May 1st !

Tusday started calm. in the salita, we was dealing with house issues, or working at disnat, or studing. Ana and later Hussein arrived in the afterniin for lunch. We was talking, almost with Ana, about Turkish culture, it differences with Spanish, how is here the daily life, the importance of the family etc..

In the evening, carlos went to the airport to pick up Tiziana and Giulia, who where coming from Rome in their first trip to Istanbul. THey arrived fine, and after a short visit to the Salita, they had acoomodation in the hostel.
In other hand, Nacho and Sole went to see Jonturk and Lukas. Jonturk was sick, with samll fever, and they spent the evening at his house, having çay, talking about the message, the parks,...

On Wednesday we had no plan, as we had an appoinment with Çanan but she wrote the day before canceling it off. We went to Kadikoy port, where there a 1st May demostration was taking place. Later, with Tiziana and Guilia, we went fir lunch and to visit Jonturk and Lukas, to check how Jonturk was, and he was feeling better.
In the evening Nacho, Carlos, Sole, Tiziana y Guilia had a touristic ferry that travel 2 hours all over the bosforo. We was watching new parts of the city, and we was talking about the message, the parks, the salita, next 4th May, etc..
IN the evening, Carlos, Tiziana and Guilia went to pich up Rachele who was coming from Rome.

Thursday morning Rachele, Tiziana y Guilia came to the Salita, they planed their touristic itinerary, and Nacho y Sole went with them to take the ship.
Calm day in the Salita, working at distance, sending invitations to 4th May, etc..
At 8pm Sibel arrived, and with Sole, Carlos y Nacho went to the Spanish table in Kadikoy. It was a very interesting ambient. 3 Turkish people, 4 Spanish, 2 North Americans, 1 Polish, 2 French, all with quite good vibes, in a wide diversity ambient. In facts, a Spanish girl, from Mallorca, has her father Turkish(Armenian) and mother German, but she was born and grew up in Mallorca. We was having this diversity that let old borders and flags, items of a world that has left inside many people.
In a very good ambient, with laughter after laughter, someones speaking better spanish than others, and in the background a Fenerbache football game that taked the atention of all the bar, we was knowing people and situations.

On Friday again Rachele, Tiziana y Guilia came to the Salita to plan their visitis. Sole went with them. Calm day again of works and studies. We where also preparing texts and videos for 4th May. In the evening, Carlos went to a meeting point with Rachele, Tiziana y Guilia to show them Galatas Tower and a coffe shop in the roof of a building where you can see bosofos sea and golden horn. By night, Cristophe arrived from Ankara, and toghether with Nacho and Carlos wen to dinner and talk about the message, the parks, Turkey,...

1st May
From Thursday 25th April when we arrived, we saw every day in the main many volunteers from asociactions, politics parties, etc.. spreading the 1st May demostrations. There where people giving leaflets, informative tables, form the most sofisticated stand to the more poor table, fomr the more informal to the more militant... we saw in one square life traditinal music, in other we saw music with drums and speakers, almost of lamppost and closed office where full of posters and stickers..all the wide variety of street spreading.
It was surprising, apart of the freedom of movements, the youthfulness of almost of the volunteers / militants, and also almost women, some cases even 100% women.
Obviously ideologies here dont look like failured.
They didnt reach this moment yet.and in some way, the islamic policy of the goverment is pushing these espresions.
One day talking with some people that said they was on the left, they dais they support Stalin, Lenin, ... making no difference between them, and we thougth that it was a teeenager way to place oneself, where the center is in one person identification with symbols and signs, but without studing or knowing if Stalin and Lenin are differents, and obviously no way to talk about failures.
On 1st May there was a big demostration, tens of thousands of people, many young people, many women, many flags, and something that surprised to us, a deep martial and aesthetic tone.
Tens of thousands of people with red flags, almost youths, almost women, nothing to be with what we are used as a comunist expression, a hundred of pople with a compositional alike a Rolling Stone concert.
Well, we saw the comunist party demostration, there was popular demostration of the other left parties and asociations, it was in the other side of Istanbul, in the Galatas Bridge. This other demostration was apparently more open, we thing less martial and more inclusive.
we had news that from this second demostrations there was wounded, water hoses down, pepper gas,..
The goverment banned the popular demostration in Taksim (emblematic place) becasue they was working to reapre the street. But the demostration tried to reach anyway the square, and this point there was a confrontation.
This 1st May the goverment forbiddem the ferry to surf the bosfor, and they open all the bridges, trying to cut the conection between neigborhouds and make very dificult to attend the demostrations.
Well, all these things has showed to us the moment in which the poepple are here and their relationship with ideologies.

A week in Ankara and 3 days in Izmir

More photos here
Hello !

This week passed at Ankara was passed with the compagny of friends, Yüksel, Zehra, Mehdi, Aylin, Youssouf, Murat and Ayça and met some new people.

It was like an immersion in the daily life in Ankara, with all the activity, preoccupations or difficulties of our friends and with the Silo's Message which give unity to each of us.

We have a lot of good times together between tea, meal, feeling good, peaceful and joyful to be together !
The Silo's Message here plays its role as a refuge...
We shared 2 cérémonies (ended by kurdish and french meals), first one with Zehra, Youssouf, Ayça and Murat, and second with Aylin, Yüksel, Aytan and Youssouf.
In the middle of this week i joined Yüksel at the book fair of Izmir for 3 days.
In this huge exhibition, Yüksel had a stand with a lot of books and some Silo's Message books.
It was not easy to present "our" Silo's Message book, in this mass of book, but we enjoy our life and we sold some books and we have had good contacts (and change email/phone) with some people who, in fact, live in Ankara or Istanbul.

Last days in Ankara we moved a lot to solve the comming of Aylin, Yüksel and Katibe to Attigliano the 17h,18th and 19th of may.
Finally, with the internet help of Isabel and Savario we arrived in deadline to deposite all files, and all seems ok. Now we wait for the visa the 13th of may.

After a few days of this, I feel great gratitude to our friends and Silo's Message, through simple acts, we lived with the feeling of sharing a great and deep experience open to the future.

I feel with new benchmark here in Turkey, with more openness and a strong desire to continue to share this Message here and try to help bring further.

Big Hugs.
Christophe.
